How to sass up a small backyard quickly and cheaply

Are you looking at your small backyard this summer and wondering how you can transform it into a space you can enjoy?

If your home isn't blessed with a lot of space, it's easy to think it's just too hard to turn it into a haven from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

Small spaces can be easier to reinvent than large ones. You just need to take a little time to imagine the sort of outdoor area that would make you happy.

Visiting gardening websites and Pinterest will give you lots of inspiration.

Below, I've listed some simple ideas to get you started on a small budget.

Even though summer is in full swing, there's still plenty of time to create your perfect outdoor hideaway and enjoy the remainder of the warm weather.

Picture This:         Create your vision based on how you'd like to use the area. Perhaps you'd love to grow vegetables in pots with a small sitting area? Alternatively, you can create an entertainment area.

Go al Fresco:          A popular choice would be to create an eating area. Invest in a small barbeque and a set of table and chairs. Eating outside really does enhance your enjoyment of the long, warm evenings. But don't forget the insect repellent! Citrus candles are perfect!

Couch Comfort:       If your budget will stretch to it, you can buy a wonderful outdoor couch and chairs set that will feel like you have an outdoor living room. You can pick up a matching set quite cheaply second-hand.

Thought Bubble:       Another idea with lots of appeal is the installation of a spa. You'd be able to use a heated model all year round – and it will add a memorable feature to your home. Watch out for the electricity bills to heat the water, unless you buy a model with solar panels.

On Fire:           If a spa seems a bit much but you love the thought of the spectacular, then consider building a fire pit. They're perfect for late-evening entertainment. Consider your neighbors and purchase a smokeless fire pit.
