Gail-Marie, Flint & Annie at Acadia National Park, while visiting Bar Harbor,
returned home in 2011 to Maine after many years living out west in Park City, Utah.  Now since 2019, we are making home and splitting time both out west and in New England, living in St George, Utah and Camden, Maine.

We successfully opened the doors of The New England Real Estate Company on December 1, 2011 in Camden, Maine with an old fashioned ribbon cutting ceremony and haven’t looked back since.  However, the dream started much earlier than that.  I now realize I first founded the concept of The New England Real Estate Company over 30 years ago as a young man growing up in my home state of Vermont where I learned about and fell in love with architecture, design and property…in their simplest terms.  I enjoyed carpentry and like any young man growing up around the Vermont ski industry scene, I worked as a carpenter in the summers at our two favorite ski resorts in northern Vermont after living in ski boots for over 100 days each winter and sailing and windsurfing on the waters of Lake Champlain each summer.

Earlier in my childhood, I had the opportunity to spend many summers on the coast of Maine with my family mostly visiting between Ogunquit, Camden and Bar Harbor.  This is when I discovered my second love after skiing… and that was sailing…Are you starting to understand my path.  Love of skiing, sailing, carpentry…now when did the girl come into the picture?  Enter Gail-Maire...

I met my wife, Gail-Marie, a native Mainer, in 1978 while attending college in Vermont.  We were on the ski team together, fell in love and were married seven years later in 1985 in Killington, Vermont.  We have enjoyed the many opportunities in traveling and working throughout Europe.  And we have lived throughout the United States, from Maine, Vermont, New York, Southern & Northern California, then Utah for our first time in Park City, and now in both Maine again and most recently, Utah again for our second time, now residing in both Camden, Maine and Southern Utah in St George which we love.

In those early years, I have had the honor of working with some of the most respected sport & leisure brands known in the world such as Thule Sweden, Bell Sports, Mad River Canoe, and Merrell Hiking Boots, meeting wonderful people, whom Gail-Marie and I have become close friends with and stay in touch with today.

Then for approx. 15 years, Gail-Marie and I had the great fortune to have lived and worked in Park City, Utah where we were very active in our town and ski resort community including serving on five nonprofit boards as well as serving on our local planning board commission and serving on our Summit County Service Area 3 board, plus having the highest honor in both volunteering & serving on our board of our favorite radio station, KPCW which we still support today!, and serving on the board and as a member of our local Park City Rotary Club.

I first worked in the real estate profession with American Skiing Company in both Maine and Utah, before joining the newly formed ownership group of Prudential Utah Real Estate.  I then opened my own Prudential Utah Real Estate office within our company in Park City, Utah, just at the time of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, and received our rookie of the year honor as well as being featured in the Wall Street Journal, for both my award winning sales results each year and serving as one of our local real estate media spokespersons.

During my time with Prudential, (Now Berkshire Hathaway) I had the honor to be named to Prudential Real Estates' prestigious Chairman's Circle for many years, including the Pinnacle - Platinum honor for my sales achievments which placed myself in the top 1% nationwide.  The Chairman's Circle - Platinum is awarded to the top one percent of the Prudential Nationwide Network of approximately 42,000 sales professionals based on gross commission income or closed units sales.

Years later, I was honored to be asked to spearhead the residential sales and marketing efforts of the Montage Hotel brand from Laguna Beach and Beverly Hills in California and our latest project was in Park City, Utah where I served as Sr. Vice President & Designated Broker for our third hotel, Montage Deer Valley, located in Empire Pass at the Deer Valley Resort.

After deciding to return home to Maine in the summer of 2011 to be closer to both our families, I spent over 6 months both designing and renovating (as well as enjoying doing all the carpentry of course) on the future offices of The New England Real Estate Company at 2 Bay View Street and on December 1, 2011, realized the completion of a dream.  We celebrated the opening of our new company and in being back home in New England, with an old fashioned ribbon cutting as well as having the honor of being the lead news story the evening prior to our opening on both channel 2 in Bangor and channel 6 in Portland.

We also held a wonderful community celebration party later that evening of our opening day!

Today, Gail-Marie and I are very fortunate to call both Camden & St. George home with our many rescue ‘kids’ of the four paw varieties.  We have enjoyed getting our hands dirty again ‘in the garden’ in the summer months in Camden plus our love of renovating & adding-on a large addition to our new offices & residence at 98 Elm Street - this combined now with our love of summers in Maine and hiking the many state and national parks in Southern Utah in the winter - (and I am always enjoying my other life-long dream…and that is always looking for and searching for my next old sailboat, to be christened in the future, the ‘Gail-Marie’ of course!)

Our future plans are simple...continue to spend quality time with our families and friends both in Maine, Vermont and Utah.  Focus on a quality expansion of our company, The New England Real Estate Company while expanding my own real estate career in Utah again, getting out on the water of course as much as possible when east, and discovering new local hiking trails in Southern Utah and live our life program, which entails our dream of living in both Maine and Utah with quality time spent with our family, speniding quality time now back in Utah, skiing in the winter and music concerts in the summer at Deer Valley again, (...and seeing our cherished old friends of course and occasionally searching for that "perfect" winter sail some years, in-between, on "warmer waters"!!

   “Always remember…

…Our lives are like a book, made up of many chapters…so always be ready to turn that next page in your life, take that first simple step forward…and follow your dream!”

The famous Camden, Maine building built in 1833 with its iconic curved front, double curved windows and unusual off-set architectural style has survived the great fire of 1892 and the harbor fire of 1935, has re-opened after major renovations to house the new real estate offices of The New England Real Estate Company in downtown Camden.

CAMDEN, MAINE – December 1, 2011 – The New England Real Estate Company announces the opening and ribbon cutting of their new Maine Real Estate offices on Thursday, December 1, 2011 within the iconic 2 Bay View Street building in Camden, Maine.

Historic 2 Bay View Street building undergoes extensive renovations to re-open in the heart of Camden

Earlier this year, the iconic 2 Bay View Street building, met a significant reconstruction milestone from the summers’ renovations to bring back the historic harbor and main street / route one famous corner storefront once again in the heart of downtown Camden.

This iconic building which survived two town fires (the great fire of 1892 and the harbor fire of 1935) had been home to many beloved past Camden businesses including first as a bank, then as the “J.W. Bowers” plumbing shop and later as the “A. H. Parsons” and “F. L. Spears” plumbing shops followed by the “Jack Frost” store, then home to the very first location of “Maine Sport” and of course in most recent years, the beloved “Unique One” Sweater and Yarn store.

“We’re proud to have chosen and completed the renovations on the historic 2 Bay View Street building and in choosing this iconic site to base our new real estate brokerage, The New England Real Estate Company, serving the tri-counties of Mid-coast Maine in Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties. We look forward to welcoming the community to see the transformation of this historic downtown store location during our community open house activities over the weekend of the 25th annual Christmas By The Sea weekend December 1 – 4, and through the holiday weeks leading up to Christmas.  This building location truly represents the charm that defines Camden,” said A. Flint Decker, President & Designated Broker for The New England Real Estate Company.

“The 2 Bay View Street building sits at the top and start of the historic Camden waterfront harbor district, welcoming many first-time visitors to the landmark mid-coast area and helping make the first impression to them of an active and vibrant quintessential New England village town and having the honor to bring back this building as well as house our new real estate brokerage offices was a once in a lifetime opportunity”, said Decker.
