      About Flint

      "It started as a dream...

...To one day return back home to New England after many years away from our families and the sea.  Camden, Maine first touched me as a child and had never left my memory."
      A. Flint Decker, Founder, President & Designated Broker of
The New England Real Estate Company
Gail-Marie, Flint & Annie at Acadia National Park, while visiting Bar Harbor,
returned home in 2011 to New England and Maine after many years living out west in Park City, Utah
We successfully opened the doors of The New England Real Estate Company on December 1, 2011 in Camden, Maine with an old fashioned ribbon cutting ceremony and haven’t looked back since.  However, the dream started much earlier than that.  I now realize I first founded the concept of The New England Real Estate Company over 30 years ago as a young man growing up in my home state of Vermont where I learned about and fell in love with architecture, design and property…in their simplest terms.  I enjoyed carpentry and like any young man growing up around the Vermont ski industry scene, I worked as a carpenter in the summers at our two favorite ski resorts in northern Vermont after living in ski boots for over 100 days each winter and sailing and windsurfing on the waters of Lake Champlain each summer.
Earlier in my childhood, I had the opportunity to spend many summers on the coast of Maine with my family mostly visiting between Ogunquit, Camden and Bar Harbor.  This is when I discovered my second love after skiing… and that was sailing…Are you starting to understand my path.  Love of skiing, sailing, carpentry…now when did the girl come into the picture?  Enter Gail-Maire...
I met my wife, Gail-Marie, a native Mainer, in 1978 while attending college in Vermont.  We were on the ski team together, fell in love and were married seven years later in 1985 in Killington, Vermont.  We have enjoyed the many opportunities in traveling and working throughout Europe.  And we have lived throughout the United States, from Maine, Vermont, New York, Southern & Northern California and most recently, Utah.
In those years, I have had the honor of working with some of the most respected sport & leisure brands known in the world such as Thule Sweden, Bell Sports, Mad River Canoe, and Merrell Hiking Boots, meeting wonderful people, whom Gail-Marie and I have become close friends with and stay in touch with today.
For approx. the past 15 years, Gail-Marie and I have lived and worked in Park City, Utah where we were very active in our town and ski resort community including serving on five nonprofit boards as well as serving on our local planning board commission.  I first worked in the real estate profession with American Skiing Company in both Maine and Utah, before joining the ownership group of Prudential Utah Real Estate.  I then opened my own Prudential Utah Real Estate office in Park City, Utah, just at the time of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, and received our rookie of the year honor as well as being featured in the Wall Street Journal, for both my award winning sales results each year and as one of our local real estate media spokespersons.
During my time with Prudential, I had the honor to be named to Prudential Real Estates' prestigious Chairman's Circle for many years, including the Pinnacle - Platinum honor for my achievments which placed myself in the top 1% nationwide.  The Chairman's Circle - Platinum is awarded to the top one percent of the Prudential Nationwide Network of approximately 42,000 sales professionals based on gross commission income or closed units.
Years later, I was honored to be asked to spearhead the residential sales and marketing efforts of the Montage Hotel brand from Laguna Beach and Beverly Hills in California and our latest project was in Park City, Utah where I served as Vice President & Designated Broker for our third hotel, Montage Deer Valley, located in Empire Pass at the Deer Valley Resort.
After deciding to return home to Maine in the summer of 2011 to be closer to both our families, I spent over 6 months both designing and renovating (as well as enjoying doing all the carpentry of course) on the future offices of The New England Real Estate Company at 2 Bay View Street and on December 1, 2011, realized the completion of a dream.  We celebrated the opening of our new company and in being back home in New England, with an old fashioned ribbon cutting as well as having the honor of being the lead news story the evening prior to our opening on both television channels 2 WLBZ Banger and channel 6 WCSH Portland locally.   (Click here to see the story.)
We also held a wonderful community celebration party later that evening of our opening day!  (See all the pictures on our web page "Opening Day in our Company")
Today, Gail-Marie and I live in Camden with our newest rescue lab, ‘Annie’ and many other rescue ‘kids’ of the four paw varieties.  We have enjoyed being back home with our families and getting our hands dirty again ‘in the garden’ as well as I am finally enjoying yet another dream of mine…and that is fixing up my new old sailboat, christened the ‘Gail-Marie’ of course!
Our future plans are simple...continue to spend quality time with our families and friends, focus on a quality expansion of our company, The New England Real Estate Company, getting out on the water of course as much as possible, discovering new local hiking trails in our scenic area of Midcoast, Maine, and live our life program, which entails our dream of living in Maine along with quality time back in Park City, skiing at Deer Valley, seeing our friends out west, and occasionally getting in a winter sail some years, in-between, on "warmer waters"!
         “Always remember…

…Our lives are like a book, made up of many chapters…so always be ready to turn that next page in your life, take that first simple step forward…and follow your dream!”

         A. Flint Decker, Founder, President & Designated Broker of
The New England Real Estate Company

My goal is to make the process of buying, selling, or owning a home efficient, enjoyable and rewarding for you. See what my clients have said about my real estate services...

"We first met Flint Decker on a visit to Camden in September 2012.  At the time, we were looking into buying farmland in the area.  From the very beginning, Flint was extraordinarily friendly and helpful. He offered us invaluable advice and was generous with his time and resources.  In February of 2013, we decided we were set on buying land near Camden.  We gave Flint a call and he immediately welcomed us back to his office for a visit.  We discussed our needs with Flint and he once again provided us with expert advice.

After viewing only two properties, we found our dream home!  From start to finish, Flint was there.  He went well above and beyond his role as our realtor.  Knowing we were planning to farm the land, Flint thoroughly researched it's history, put us in touch with a local soil scientist, and even contacted our town code enforcement officer to check that everything we wanted to do was possible.

Flint patiently guided us through the negotiation process and celebrated with us at our closing only a short time later.  Flint treated us like family and has continued to advise us, many months after we bought our land.  He helped us to find our invaluable general contractor and is always on hand to share tips on everything from what tractor to buy to where to buy a good chainsaw.  We feel truly blessed to have found Flint and will always owe him our sincerest thanks for helping us find the home of our dreams."

Eitan and Elizabeth Siegel, Appleton, Maine

"First impressions mean alot! - My first meeting with Flint was a chance encounter the summer when Flint was restoring the 2 Bay View Street building in Camden and he was preparing to open his new real estate office and company, The New England Real Estate Company, when curiosity got the better of me.  In our first conversation we talked about his business and customer service goals and business philosophy.  Before leaving I asked if I could be his first listing in Camden and his company, and he said, 'Of course. It would be our honor'.

My wife Annie and I then listed our home with Flint, and two weeks later we were under contract and preparing to move.  From our first meeting to the present day, our entire experience has been cheerfully-related and often - even today, where we have purchased our newest home with Flint, again representing us, in our newest purchase in Maine!

Customer service and courteous professionals have not disappeared...we were extremely pleased to find this with Flint and you will find this with all of the brokers in his company, The New England Real Estate Company."

Ted and Annie Logan, Camden, Maine

"We met Flint Decker on a visit to Camden in July 2013 which was the first time back to Camden since the mid 1970's.We were starting to look for a vacation house and Flint talked with us for about an hour and inquired about our wants and needs. The next day he lined up five properties to view. By the end of the week, we had a contract on a house that we eventually purchased even though we thought it would take a few years to find such a property.  Flint has a wonderful way about him. He is a wonderful listener,  very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. His help went well beyond his role as our realtor and his "20 questions" he said we would have during the closing process.  Flint patiently helped us through the entire closing process from financing to title company to all the other issues of buying a house while living out of state. He also took the time to introduce us to many people in town that helped us with various issues from banking to contractors. We were treated like family and could not have asked for a better experience."

Rodney and Suzy Chamberlain, Ellicott City, Maryland & Camden, Maine

"We recently brought a waterfront home with the help of The New England Real Estate Company and Flint Decker was specifically the broker that guided the entire process for us.  We lived previously in the Northwest in Oregon and Washington for quite awhile prior to settling on Midcoast Maine.

In my past, I purchased a considerable amount of real estate on the West Coast.  I bring this up because I have had numerous experiences with Realtors taking short term thinking attitudes in either the purchase or sale of properties I acquired.  This led to me choosing to become a licensed Broker in Oregon myself.  I found this relieving me of dealing with these typical Realtor experiences we sometimes have all had.

My experience with Flint has been refreshingly different throughout the whole process.  His passion about the profession that he is doing was quite obvious.  I have been called 'high maintenance' and quite analytical in my quest for any real estate purchases.  Flint was consistent in proving to me that he was willing to take the time to do whatever it took to reach our goals.

I am currently working again with Flint to purchase other properties for rental investments and I encourage and refer people to work with Flint that really wish more than the 'typical - one-shot deal' experience with a Realtor."

      Harvey Pepper, Thomaston, Maine

"Across the homes and cities I’ve lived in, there has only been one agent I’ve done business with whom I trust implicitly, and in Camden, Maine, Flint is it!  Since Flint has returned back to Maine, I have had the opportunity in getting to know Flint quite closely and I had the privilege of working with Flint as my realtor when I sold my South Thomaston antique & interior gifts store and building in 2012.  Previously, I had never felt my property ever received a professional marketing approach or attention that Flint provided, especially in his photography choices of my property.  It had never looked as good online!

Another one of Flint's key strengths is his love and many years of experience in marketing!  You especially can see this is his overall branding of his company, his company positioning, and his total-focus on the marketing of a property with his professional signage and advertising, and I was proud to be one of his first listings locally!

Flint’s broad knowledge as an owner of his own real estate company is multi-faceted and he was most certainly able to do much more than the average agent had for me in the past.  I especially appreciated his ability to advise me on my next steps when our offer come in; and he was there to help and support me in every possible way in my negotiations – all the way to closing.

I would highly recommend Flint Decker to any person who is looking to buy or sell a home here in Midcoast Maine, as well as I will seek his service again in any of my own future real estate transactions! - Thanks Flint!"

David Robichaud, Owner of Cappy's Chowder House, Camden, Maine

"In September of 2012, we were looking to relocate to Maine and as we visited Camden, we stopped into Flint's office to discuss possibilities.  Flint listened to our requirements and resources then promptly came up with several homes for sale to look at.  The Village at Rockport suited our needs completely being new construction and the added convenience of being a condominium community.

Now 14 months later we are proud owners of a new cottage in the Village of Rockport.  All with none of the problems often encountered in buying a home.  Our thanks in great part to The New England Real Estate Company and Flint Decker!"

The famous Camden, Maine building built in 1833 with its iconic curved front, double curved windows and unusual off-set architectural style has survived the great fire of 1892 and the harbor fire of 1935, has re-opened after major renovations to house the new real estate offices of The New England Real Estate Company in downtown Camden.

CAMDEN, MAINE – December 1, 2011 – The New England Real Estate Company announces the opening and ribbon cutting of their new Maine Real Estate offices on Thursday, December 1, 2011 within the iconic 2 Bay View Street building in Camden, Maine.

Historic 2 Bay View Street building undergoes extensive renovations to re-open in the heart of Camden

Earlier this year, the iconic 2 Bay View Street building, met a significant reconstruction milestone from the summers’ renovations to bring back the historic harbor and main street / route one famous corner storefront once again in the heart of downtown Camden.

This iconic building which survived two town fires (the great fire of 1892 and the harbor fire of 1935) had been home to many beloved past Camden businesses including first as a bank, then as the “J.W. Bowers” plumbing shop and later as the “A. H. Parsons” and “F. L. Spears” plumbing shops followed by the “Jack Frost” store, then home to the very first location of “Maine Sport” and of course in most recent years, the beloved “Unique One” Sweater and Yarn store.

“We’re proud to have chosen and completed the renovations on the historic 2 Bay View Street building and in choosing this iconic site to base our new real estate brokerage, The New England Real Estate Company, serving the tri-counties of Mid-coast Maine in Knox, Waldo and Lincoln counties. We look forward to welcoming the community to see the transformation of this historic downtown store location during our community open house activities over the weekend of the 25th annual Christmas By The Sea weekend December 1 – 4, and through the holiday weeks leading up to Christmas.  This building location truly represents the charm that defines Camden,” said A. Flint Decker, President & Designated Broker for The New England Real Estate Company.

“The 2 Bay View Street building sits at the top and start of the historic Camden waterfront harbor district, welcoming many first-time visitors to the landmark mid-coast area and helping make the first impression to them of an active and vibrant quintessential New England village town and having the honor to bring back this building as well as house our new real estate brokerage offices was a once in a lifetime opportunity”, said Decker.
