Enjoy some of our past memories supporting PAWS!

Thank you to everyone who attended our past annual Anniversary & Community Celebrations and who donated to our annual non-profit cause for PAWS in past years!

Each year with the help of many friends, clients and family members in the community, we enjoy celebrating and raising much needed donations for our local PAWS Animal Adoption Center.

To date, we have collectively helped raise in excess of $100,000.00 and we look forward to future opportunities in helping to raise more donations for PAWS!

Enjoy some of the past year's photos from our past celebrations and we look forward to our upcoming celebration this December 2018 where we plan our annual community party once again to celebrate our 7th year in business with the completion of our new expanded offices.

Thank you on behalf of all of us here at The New England Real Estate Company.

      All our best,

Flint and Gail and Annie of course!

      Community Service...Our Honor

Life is special.  Just before our opening on December 1, 2011, we had the honor of meeting both the parents and their eighth grade students from the Camden Rockport Middle School who were chosen to attend a Japanese Exchange in April, 2012.  This annual exchange program is with our sister state relationship between the state of Maine and the Prefecture of Aomori region of Japan, which has history going back over 100 years between Maine and Japan.
Celebrating its 14th year, the kids needed to raise funds for the cost of their upcoming trip.  Enter Maxina Gonzales & Charlotte Horovitz!  Both have children attending this years trip and asked us if we would consider assisting the kids in their planned Christmas Wreath Sale & Gift Wrapping event, over the Christmas By The Sea Weekend celebrations in downtown, Camden held December 2-4, 2011.
We were pleased to be asked.  Joining forces with Boynton McKay,  we set out to help support the fundraising efforts of the CRMS Japanese Exchange program!  We opened up our back offices for the kids to use, both to display and sell their many wreaths over the holiday weekend and we had a lot of fun as well!
The wreaths were handcrafted by the students, many with Origami and Signature bows.  100% of the proceeds of the sale were donated to the students fundraising efforts.  Here are some pictures of the many wreaths for sale as well as the gift wrapping station created by the kids for that weekend.
A special thank you to Laura, Max and Charlotte for all their hard work organizing the busy holiday weekend and to the excellent job the kids did working on their own fundraising efforts!

Proudly Supporting the Holiday Pops Concert
One day shortly after just opening our offices, Mr. Russell W. Brace, President of The United MidCoast Charities, walked into our offices and asked if we had interest in supporting the United MidCoast Charities upcoming 2011 Holiday Pops Concert playing at the Strom Auditorium on December 17, 2011, but more importantly, asked, "Did we still believe in Santa Claus...?"
Well that was all it took, and within seconds, after saying..."Well yes of course, and you believe, right?  "Rusty" had his back cover sponsor (and proudly!) for the 2011 Holiday Pops Concert program, put on by the Maine Pro Musica Orchestra!
The evenings concert was lead by local Conductor and Music Director, Janna Hymes.  It was a wonderful evening and we were delighted to support such a cause and to help be a part of a community effort with many other sponsors.  The United MidCoast Charities do work through 50 agencies within Knox and Waldo counties, all donating time and money to raise funds and awareness as well as work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for those less fortunate, now for 70 years!
"Thank you again Rusty", for stopping in that fateful day and it is our honor to be a part of The United MidCoast Charities family of sponsors!  Here is a picture from that magical evening, and of our favorite person performing that evening to a sold out auditorium!  See, we still believe!

      Community Service - Our Honor

Living in the Midcoast will allow you to volunteer or belong to numerous organizations that will meet your personal needs.  We all volunteer or belong to non profit organizations and can guide you to the organizations that best suit your passions.

      #10: It's good for you.

Volunteering provides physical and mental rewards. It:

      • Reduces stress: Experts report that when you focus on someone other than yourself, it interrupts usual tension-producing patterns.
      • Makes you healthier: Moods and emotions, like optimism, joy, and control over one's fate, strengthen the immune system.

      #9: It saves resources.

      West Bay Rotary Duck Derby

Volunteering provides valuable community services so more money can be spent on local improvements.

      #8: Volunteers gain professional experience.

You can test out a career.

      #7: It brings people together.

As a volunteer you assist in:

History of 2 Bay View Street - Historic Camden, Maine

"It first started as a bank..."

Main Street Camden, looking North in 1875. Notice the 2 Bay View Street building in the lower right.

The 2 Bay View Street building was built in 1833 and first started as a bank, as evidenced from the original ‘teller windows’ still in place today. Known for its iconic curved front and curved windows, the building housed a safe that is long gone but the heart of the space remains. Just a short period later, the building was owned by Joseph W. Bowers and called the ‘J. W. Bowers’ Plumbing Co. The shop was known locally for selling a number of items including supplies for the ship chandlers’ in port, fisherman’s outfits, plumbing supplies, sailing provisions, kitchen & woodenwares, and a tinsmith. The space also housed a steamboat agent’s office and a small fish market off the harbor.

At the time Mr. Bowers owned the building it was known as the ‘Jones Block’. By 1931, it was owned by Albert H. Parsons, who was also a plumber and renamed the business to the ‘A. H. Parsons’ Plumbing Supply Co. Mr. Parsons retired in 1947. It remained this name well into the late 50’s and then changed to the ‘F. L. Spears’ Plumbing and Heating Co. At this time the building was referred to as the ‘Spears Block’. Years later, the building was sold once again and became the ‘Hamilton’ Plumbing Co. In 1971, Betty and Jack Frost purchased the building.

"...And was built like a boat!"

Aerial view of the Camden Harbor in 1946.

In many ways, the building was built like a boat, given its distinctive curved front shape, unusual offset architectural style and its large oversized curved front windows. The building survived the great fire of 1892 where the winds were known to be coming out of the Northeast and carried the fire up Elm Street. Years later, the building also survived the harbor fire of 1935 where fortunately the winds were blowing in the opposite direction out of the Northwest toward the harbor. In both cases the building was spared from the devastation of each fire.

During an economic boom in shipbuilding, then bust, then boom again, and eventually a harbor landing waterfront redevelopment, the building has remained. She sits proudly at the head of Bay View Street and on the corner of what was known at the turn of the century as the ‘Corner of Bay View and Commercial Streets’. Inside, a 3 story floor industrial elevator was used for many years by the plumbing supply companies and still is in place today.

      "Maine Sport's first location..."

Overlooking the Camden Harbor sometime between 1920 and 1930. Notice the garage door where Maine Sport started.

The building has had many successful businesses over the years including ‘The Jack Frost Shop’, which first opened in February 1972 and was soon robbed of $31,000 worth of coins and rare stamps right after it opened. The shop was well known for their antiques, post cards, coins, artwork and Maine made items. Later in the mid 70’s, ‘Maine Sport’s’ first location opened up for business in the dead of winter, selling bikes and kayaks out of the garage space downstairs. ‘The ‘Canvas Bag Shop’ opened and sold its goods out of the side entrance on Commercial Street each summer. Later, the well loved ‘Unique One’ sweater and yarn store operated out of the main floor for many years till 2009. Today, the ‘Small Wonder’ art gallery, now in its 28th year of business and ‘The New England Real Estate Company’ both operate out of the historic 2 Bay View Street building.
